I'm the last person I know who still uses LiveJournal even on a monthly basis. I started writing in this thing my senior year of high school back when a lot of my friends actually had one, but a year later MySpace was the next big thing, and then Facebook. I kept up with what the flavor of the year was, but even having a MySpace and Facebook I managed to still update here even when others had long forgotten about it.
Originally I'd write here and get a healthy amount of replies which was always nice, but over time I just started writing for my own sake. I liked the idea of being able to look back on my life and read about specific events from years past, hell, I still like the idea. However, these last few years I've had less and less urges to actually take the time to write anything down. It started feeling more like an obligation just so that I could tell myself "yeah, I'm still going along with the recording my life" thing rather than me actually WANTING to write it. What I'm trying to say is that I'm not sure how much longer I'll be writing here. Who knows, this may be the last entry EVER.
Since I may not be using this too many more times, I'll give the rundown on the last few weeks. I saw Reno 911 Miami The Movie with Josh on Feb 23rd. It was tough to figure out what was wrong with it, but something was wrong with it. Eventually we figured out the problem was that the movie didn't really follow any characters individually, but treated the entire squad sort of as a person. Very few character-based jokes. If you like the show and are already familiar with the characters, 3 out of 5. On the other hand, if you hate the show and don't know anything about the characters, 1 out of 5.
That night, for the very first time, I fainted. I was getting ready for bed, and I collapsed in my doorway. It was only for a few seconds, but it was enough to scare the bejesus out of Josh. I was fine though, just a scraped knee and hurt jaw.
I'm really enjoying my photography class, I'm surviving math, and enjoying my animation classes. Film Noirs alright even if I do get very tired most nights.
We're getting the entire main and top floors of the house redone removing the carpet and replacing it with hardwood floors sometime soon.
Spring Break just started. Went bowling with Sherer, Shore, and Gotlib yesterday night and totally by luck wound up at Lodi Lanes in the lane right next to Sierra, Dan, and their friends. Seeing Sierra again made me VERY happy seeing as how we were really close senior year. I hadn't seen her in person since graduation even though we still kept in touch freshman year of college.
OK, I dont feel like writing anymore (drivers license replaced, diner). I don't know how likely it is that this will be my last post here, but just in case, thanks to anyone who's actually followed this thing the last 4 years. I'll prob be back.

Haven't written in this thing in a mega long time...in comparison to how often I would update this in years past anyway. I find I have less and less of an urge to update this thing, and so when I finally do, unless something incredible has happened, they wind up being really short.
Hm, so this semester is actually going alright so far. I passed 3 of the 5 sections on my first math test, and if I pass the 2 I flunked on the retest, I'll be in real good shape. My animation classes are alright, infact 2 of my movies are going to be in a film festival on April 16th. One is a group project that as a class we're animating a video to Bergens jazz ensemble- a piece called Soulfinger. You can YouTube it if you wanna hear it. The other video I submit will probably just be a touched up version of my Flash Suck video from last semester. Have my Film Noir class Thurs nights with Kerri. Eh, the movies are pretty good but I can tell I'm gonna get a poor grade simply because I have zero enthusiasm for the class. Photography is cool too even though I had camera troubles the first 2 weeks.
It's been cool here but we got our first actual snow earlier this week. Usually I hate snow, but I can deal with it this year. It's really nothing right now. In game world, I bought Diddy Kong Racing DS- incredible remake of an incredible game. I also rented and will soon be purchase my new fav DS game- Elite Beat Agents. SOOOO addictive and challenging. Sonic comes out Tues for Wii so I hope my high expectations for that are met. 3D Sonics have been goin downhill and fast these last few years, but this game looks promising to me.
Oh, I also downloaded Kirbys Adventure and Kid Icarus on the Virtual Console. Love them both, especially Kid Icarus. Ohhhh yeah, also my mom went to Mexico for a week but enough about her. K im done. buhbye now.

| Happy New Year! I Have No Job! |
[11 Jan 2007|12:38pm] |
|
Winter break went too fast as usual, which probably has something to do with the fact that I have yet to "do" anything (as they say) over my breaks. I haven't traveled or gone out of the NJ/NYC area in years. Meh. I will eventually.
Anyway, New Years was pretty fun at Mar's. Standard new yearsy stuff, but it was just refreshing to socialize with people who I haven't since high school... as well as norms like Sherer and Shore. Good times.
This whole winter break can best be summarized by the word "chillin". Sometimes solo, very often with Jord, Sherer, Shore, Ant, or Gotlib, sometimes with Matt or Paul, and on occasion Toli, Beth, Julie, and Yelena.
I've become quickly addicted to the '90s sitcom NewsRadio ever since my dad introduced the series to me now that he has most of it on DVD so I've been watching that a lot lately. So funny.
Now then, onto the real dirt. What could very well be my final semester at Bergen starts tomorrow, so obviously Knorowski thought it would be logical to drag all us STC's out of bed the morning before at 8:30am for a mandatory walkthrough of the criteria for n00bs and returning employees. Just like last time, that meant not actually starting til closer to 9:30. Also like last time it was boring, but at least I had friends (or friend-like humans) there this time. ANYWAY! I was there til around 12:30, and it wasn't unTIL 12 noon or so that I was told I'm not working there this semester. Now before you get all outraged at how this can happen to me, I was pretty prepared for this.
I worked the full 20 hour shift last semester and did a kick ASS job doing everything I did. I wasn't fired. It's just that my class schedual requires many hours of me this semester, so the hours I tried to get for work were butchered down to 6 a week spread out over 4 days. Boss said that's just not gonna work out, and I was fine with that. We left on good terms, and if something ever happens where I think I can work more than the 6 hours I may be able to work there again, but for now...nada. Besides not getting payed $375 every 2 weeks I don't really have a problem... goddammit. Well, if that's what it takes for me to actually be able to concentrate on my math work and pass I'll take that loss...just please let me pass already.
Class begins tomorrow, and though it takes up a bunch of time, the only class I'm worried about IS Algebra. 3D 2 also seems intimidating, but I'll conquer that one much easier than the math. Here's the schedual.
Monday 09:00AM-01:10PM Photography I 03:10PM-04:30PM Algebra B
Tuesday NOTHING- day for relaxing and/or studying
Wednesday 03:10PM-04:30PM Algebra B
Thursday 12:40PM-04:50PM 2D Animation 2 06:10PM-09:00PM Special Topis in Cinema II
Friday 12:40PM-4:50PM 3D Animation 2
OK OK, maybe it doesn't look like THAT much, but I think it's a fairly heavy load to work with if I also wanted to include a real work schedual.

(+44) When Your Heart Stops Beating |
] |
Well here we are again, another year gone by. 2006 was a pretty good year for me, I guess. I mean, the geek in me couldn't have been more pleased with how the last few months of the year went. I mean come on- new Weird Al CD and, new Nintendo system, and Rifftrax? That's like Andrew heaven right there, alone. Got a decent paying job where I don't have to do much, still close with my friends, Aced the classes I took this last semester, (+44) CD is pretty great... yeah, I think 06 was pretty damn good. It's pretty likely I'll be updating in this thing less and less, I mean, look at my entries for December 06? A wopping 2, count 'em, 2. Nice.
IN 2007 -Graduate from BCC? -A girl will like me??? -The Family Circus will be funny?
The reality is no one has any clue what will happen. Unless it's planned, like going to dinner or something. And oh yeah, I know The Family Circus STILL won't be funny.

OK, I haven't written in this thing in weeks so it's time to update. There aren't words to describe everything that happened waiting for the Wii November 17th and 18th, but I'll try. So, with the launch of the Wii in less than 24 hours, Josh, Barry, and I drive over to the Target in Clifton around 6pm. The ride itself was an experience simply because of Josh's poor navigation skills, but we got there nonetheless. We check to see if a line had formed outside yet, afterall, it wasn't unheard of to have lines DAYS before a system launch. Hours ahead of time didn't seem unlikely. Not too much to our surprise, though, there was no line in sight. This was good and bad news. Good for us, because we'd be among the firsts if not THE first in line, but maybe bad as a whole because why WOULDN'T there be a line for it? Has Nintendos popularity gone THAT downhill since the Gamecube?
Well, we go inside to see what the Target has up in the way of demos. Nothing but empty space for games and controllers. Bummer. Well, we figure we've got a lot of time to kill with little competition, so we head over to the Applebee's nearby for some dinner. Any time passing is good time. I had ribs which I'd be able to smell on my fingers for the rest of the night. Around 8 we head back to the Target, and a short line had formed by now. 2 very ghetto brothers started the line as we knew it. We introduced ourselves and tried to pass some more time in the store for warmth. One of the employees told us there may not be a line outside because of the chaos in the PS3 line earlier that week, but they'd let us know by the time they closed. Sure enough, there was a sign outside the door: Nintendo Wii line starts here. Store opens at 8am.
Well, we got our chairs from the car and parked our asses right in front. Actually, Josh, Barry, and I were 7th, 8th, and 9th in line (Josh and I share the console, I was actually a placeholder for Barrys dad). Anyway, time was moving slow, but we got friendly with the first 10 people in line. These were SUCH characters it was insane. I actually miss them. They were that entertaining. We formed sort of a posse. We were the first 10, after us, we knew only a mom and here young kids but after that we didn't talk to anyone even though by the time 8am rolled around there were well over 160 people.
The players: The first person in line was a woman, buying the system for a relative of hers. That's commitment. Next person on line was this cool guy who kinda reminded me of Baldacci a little bit, very chill. Next up were some people that I guess I don't remember, odd. Then came the 2 wangsta brothers. Next to them was Barry, then me, then Josh. Next to Josh was this guy who we never learned his real name but this guy was absolutely insane in the best way possible, I'll get back to this dude in a bit. Then came this guy who looked like Reggie, Nintendo's Vice President, and we talked South Park for a long time. Then came that mom and kids.
Anyway, we all got to know eachother pretty well. The guy next to Josh was brilliantly insane. After we all started talking and having a good time, he says "I really like you. I'm gonna make a point not to know any of your names" and we didn't know his. He was called Rocket for a while, said his name was 3 letters so people guessed. "Joe?" "Yes" "Fag?" "Yes" "Ass?" "Yes". So he was also Joe Fagass for a little while. Eventually I think we figured out his name is really Pat. He talked about social experiments he'd do just for fun. Get a game of catch going in the park with a friend, then "accidentally" throw it to someone not playing. They'll throw it back, and you throw it to them again. He said 3 things happen. Either you get them trapped in a game of catch because who can walk away from a game of catch? They'll throw it beyond you so when you get to it they leave. Or they'll be an ass and throw it away from you.
His other experiment he talked about, I liked more. He stood by the Path trains with a sign. He wanted it to be simple, but also something that someone will go home and think about. His sign read "I'm better than you". Everyone riding the train saw it as it slowed to a stop. My description does his story little justice and if anything ruins the humor. Oh well.
This Pat guy, by the way, got on line spontaniously. He and some room mates went to pick up some 360 games t play that night, he didn't even know a Wii line was gonna be formed, but when he saw the sign, he just called his room mates up sand said "I'm gonna stay here". He didn't have a car and didn't know where he was and didn't have a ride back. He just wanted a Wii.
It got cold. VERY cold. These guys made it fun though. We made a game where we'd put cups and bottles in the street and see which could get the best explosions when someone'd drive over them. For people without a TV or warmth, that can get kinda fun. Frisbee was played, some guys went to Chevee to get some drinks, we talked about all kinds of stuff, we played the "who would win" game, Josh kept replacing any word the the "ee" sound with the word "Wii" like "telWiivision" and that was odd but when other people kept doin it it was funny. Shore and Jaked stopped by a little bit. My mom stopped by and brought me hot chocolate. 11 hours later and 8am came. They had 120 Wii's, a lot of people had to get off line. One woman was hit by a car right infront of us but wasn't hurt, still... Our little group felt vastly superior to the other people in line. We actually felt like better people than them. Pat wrote "Wii" on the lamppost outside and added an "i" every hour. Then we signed our initials (if anyone gos to the Target in Clifton, lemme know if its still there). In the morning, a bigass cup of eggnog was crushed and made this great popping noise. It was fun.
I wrote SO much about the waiting itself I don't feel like writing about the actual weeks anymore. Just know the system is great, everyone whos come over to play it loved it, and I think more people who wanna try it are on the way over next weekend. Wii Sports is much more fun than I expected, I'm 30+ hours into Zelda now and just finished the 4th temple, and Super Monkey Ball had a little learning curve and gets insanely difficult. Making Mii's is hilarious, and for the first time in ages, my mom loves playing a video game. She really likes Wii Sports.
Thanksgiving came, we went to my grandmas. Alright stuff. Yoshi's Island DS is a worthy sequel to the best SNES platformer of all time. THE END...for now.

Well this is rare. What we have here is an endangered Monday update. The reason for this entry is because all kinds of wrong is goin on.
May as well start as back as last Thursday. My dad passed out in the bathroom...twice... in the same 15 minutes. He didn't go to work for a week and was in and out of the hospital a few times. Had 103 degree temperature and a nasty cough. The cough he's had for a while, and though he went back to work last Friday, he's still got the cough.
That's good and all that he's back at work and feeling better, but you may notice it's not about me, which brings me to my next topic. Today I got the latest math test back and I went above and beyond my expectations of lousiness. 4 sections, 4 failures. I didn't pass a single objective, so THAT means it is indeed time to withdrawl. THAT means taking it next semester, what's supposed to be my last semester at BCC, and HAVING to pass so I can graduate.
It's funny how BCC has a way of never letting me leave. As I've said many times on this thing, Spring 2007 is supposed to be my last semester here, but recent events indicate that may not be true. Math aside, there are 4 more art classes I have left to take in order to graduate with a degree in animation, then I'm done. What I discovered yesterday was that 2 of those art classes, 2D Animation II and the Portfolio class, both which happen to be mandatory to get the degree, only meet once a week... and overlap. If they overlapped by like, 10-20 minutes I'm sure I'd be able to work something out, but we're talkin about an hour of overlappage, and I don't think either offers a summer course. I e-mailed one the Portfolio professor today and I'm gonna talk to Francis tomorrow to see if he has any idea on what I could do to graduate before Fall 2007, but to be honest, I'm not sure anything could be arranged.
There's also the little matter of one Studio Art class I need to take saying I need a recomendation to register. I don't know what the hell it's talking about, but I guess I'll get that sorted out when I talk to Francis later this week.
There's no reason to be negative about it, though. If there's nothing I can do, I may as well enjoy it for what good it could potentially bring. The immediate example that comes to mind is, well, I won't have Algebra from 1:40-3:00 anymore for the rest of the semester. That's time I could now use to go to the gym or game on with Wii.
If I can't take both of those art classes next semester and have to go to Bergen thru Fall 2006, that gives me more time to build up work for my portfolio, and gives me one more chance to not pass math (though I must)- slightly less preassure, and I'd continue my job here as an STC with a $9.00 per hour wage.
The truth is, I'm in no immediate rush to finish BCC. I don't have any plans for a post-BCC life currently anyway. I doubt I'll go on to a 4 year college. My mom gave me the OK on taking a 5 month break after Bergen to just relax and figure out what I want to do next whether that's trying to find a real job or continuing my education at an art school, or something entirely different. The only rush I have for graduating from Bergen IS to graduate from Bergen. I'm sure both my parents will be happier about me finishing than I will, even if that's not for another damn year.
I'm less annoyed than I think other people would expect someone in my situation to be. What I'm most annoyed about currently is the fact that when i get home after 7 I have to start and finish a project due tomorrow morning.
In the slim good news of the week: For some reason, all the STC's are now getting an extra 90 cents per hour, raising my current wage to 8.90. That's an extra 36 bucks every 2 weeks. Also, Alan, Eileen, Lauren, Josh, and I went to Rowan last night to check out Fair Lawn in their first championships of the season. Though they only took 5th, they nabbed best percussion, and I personally was VERY impressed. I last saw the show a few weeks ago at Giants Stadium and have never been a fan of the music they chose, but yesterday it all finally made sense. It was really great.

MST3K had its last new episode in 1999. The Sci-Fi Channel still aired reruns thru January 2004. It has not been seen on TV since. Flash forward to the year 2006 when Rifftrax is introduced to the world. Download the riffs as an MP3, synch it up with the movie, and viola: Mike riffing movies. The thing is, Rifftrax tends to do popular movies. Halloween, The Matrix, The Fifth Element, Star Trek V, Crossroads, etc. It's not that these movies don't deserve to be riffed (they do), but MST3K was great because the movies were REALLY bad. Now it's time for Mike, Bill, and Kevin to get back to their roots with The Film Crew.
http://www.filmcrewonline.com/
Finally. The MST trio will be releasing direct to DVD real B-movies with their commentaries. Rifftrax is good, but from the short teaser clips at the Film Crews site, TFC projects are looking to be even better. It's captured the feel of MST in a way Rifftrax hasn't for me so far. Still, you can bet your ass I'll be downloading Rifftrax commentary on The Matrix a week from today.
In other news, I retook that math test yesterday. It's a big if, but if I do well then there's a gleaming chance that MAYBE I won't have to withdrawl (yet). Outback last week was amazing. First time I ever cleared the entire plate. Got Mega Man ZX in the mail from Gamefly and so far, a few days into it, it's the best Mega Man game I've played in a while. I really only like the original and X games, not those gayass Battle Network RPGs or even the Zero franchise which was supposed to play like X, but it didn't. Thise one though, ZX, it's pretty freakin' good.
Oh yeah, also I got an STC badge today. So it seems I really am an official member now. Wowee. Wish I had something interesting to write about... oh, it looks like we're not visiting Jord anymore. At least not in November. Whatever, doesn't matter too much.

Friday again, and you I know what THAT means: Unmeaningful blog update day!
A week ago tonight, I went out with Shore and Ant. What started off as just driving around and getting ice cream eventually led to a really spontanious visit to Matt in the city. Random? Very VERY much so. Good times? Yeah. I saw his apartment for the first time and its pretty nice. Bunch of people were hanging out there so including Steve, Ant, and myself, it made the place REALLY crowded. We all went to get french fries at this restaurant that exclusivly sells fries and dipping sauces. Word on the street was they have the BEST fries, and though they were good, McDonalds fries trump them. It's hard to find a better tasting fry than those sold at McDonalds.
Saturday night was Giants Stadium. Not very eventful, but got to see Toli for a little while. Before the awards were announced, they played "Who Let the Dogs Out" and Jamie chimed in saying he used that song with his kindergardeners. "Who let the A out? Who let the B out? Who let the C out? Who let the..." and so on, all the way to "Z". That had me in hysterics for a good 2 minutes.
Weekdays were weekdays. Class, work, etc. Not much to report on. Oh, except the new Demetri Martin CD (These are Jokes) is amazing and everyone should buy it. Also we picked up the last 2 sets of Ren & Stimpy. Schoolwise though, still in a rut with math but my dad and I are gonna try particularly hard this time around. I don't doubt I'll have to withdrawl, but I'm gonna give it everything I've got to NOT have to do that first. Work has been pretty difficult lately, though. I mean, I've only watched like 10 episodes of Simpsons and South Park this week. Only 10? Wow. (Did you catch the sarcasm? This job is basically perfect).
http://tvlinks.50webs.com/
That site saved me many times. It has entire seasons of TV shows available to download indivudally by episode. Hell, I'm watching The Office right now.
Wii was available today for pre-order and I was at work all day. ...great. Hopefully Josh got it, but I doubt he did. With just a little under an hour left to go til I'm done with work, I'm getting uber psyched for my OUTBACK dinner. Been waiting all week for this. :)

I'm at work and tired (surprise). I've had little to be upset about recently, but as usual, Math comes along and pokes me in the eyes and then spits in my hair. As anyone who knows me should know, I struggle with math. The subject just doesn't come easily to me which is why even at college, I am in courses the majority of people my age finished by the time they got to 10th grade. I finished Basic Math and Algebra A, this semester it's Algebra B. The B, I like to think, is for Balls (I've never thought that before until now).
Math classes at Bergen are a little retarded when it comes to their grading policy. There's no overall grade for tests, just Pass/Fail for every section. There are 17 sections total and you must pass 11 (and pass the final) to get the minimum grade of a C. Also, you're allowed to retest 6 sections. We took the first test that had 5 sections on it and I passed a whopping ONE section, putting me in a horrible situation. If I use 4 of my 6 retakes now, I'm left with 2 for the rest of the semester (subtraction. yeah i know it). The probability of me passing all 4 sections in the retake is slim, and it's too late to audit the class. I'm in a bad bad place.
Still, I remain optimistic about most things. Other than math, all my other classes have been fine. I'm really liking Flash animation, it's sort of rekindling an interest in my major! I'm trying to get back into the habit of running at least 3 or 4 times a week, I'll see Paul tomorrow for the first time since he went to college when we go to Giant Stadium to see the band, and as of right now it looks like Sherer, Ant, Shore, and I are gonna be visiting Jord November 17-19. I'll, of course, be rushing them to get home as early as possible on Sunday though since it's the launch day of the Wii.
Math sucks. I need a miracle to pass this semester, and not one of those cheesy miracles either. I need something big. I need the professor to lose everything she records her grades onto, get some kind of minor brain damage, and for me to get a time machine. Does anyone have a time machine they can loan me?

Friday afternoon here in the Tech Lab. I really did not feel like coming to work today. I'm just really tired, but at least this job doesn't require a whole lot of effort. Few people have needed my help today, and the ones that did didn't ask anything stupid or hard. When I go home in another 2 hours, I will probably collapse on my couch for a while or maybe even in my bed with blasting A/C. Just typing about it is making me even more eager to leave.
I did something a little different during my 30 min break today. Usually I take that time to get something to eat: either a bagel from the Dunkin Dounts or chicken from the food court, but not today. I havn't been to the gym since early August and I really wanted to keep going and eating better but ever since school started, or even a little before, I havn't kept that goal up. I've been eating all the fast food I want and excersize maybe 2 times a week (a little more cuz of my gym class), but still- thats not gonna do too much.
So I went to the gym today during my break. Even if it's just for 25 mins on Fridays, hopefully it amounts to something. I'll get back into running come winter break. Thing is, as much as I havn't been excersizing, I've been maintaing my weight. Interesting.
Got paid yesterday, thats nice.
Lastly, since I am a gamer, I must report Microsoft had an Xbox 360 show on Wednesday. "Andrew, why are you talking about the 360? You're a lifelong Nintendo fan" you might be asking yourself. Well, that is true, I am a Nintendo fan first and formost however my all-time favorite video game series (Banjo-Kazooie) is getting a new game on the 360. The character models look VERY pretty (nice fur) albeit really different. They're sharper and less cuddly looking. Still, rule of thumb is if a Banjo game comes out, I need it. I'll be getting a 360 down the road, but not til Banjo comes out. It can wait. Wii is in just a little less than 2 months though. Sweet.

that annoying cough |

Wednesday evening again. Seems theres one every week these days.
Being an STC gives me an excuse to write in this thing still. I have nothing but free hours online with usually very little to do, so I may as well write in this. Right now there is someone in this lab with a VERY annoying cough. It sounds like, ok you know when cats hack up furrballs? Well it's like that sorta. Kinda raspy, but high pitched. I GOT IT! This cough sounds like Golem! EXACTLY!
Since I last wrote in this thing, I got my phone replaced (same exact model). I also got the new BNL CD, which I was kinda underwhelmed with initially. Almost every track is so mellow and slow, but it grew on me. It's definatly not gonna be my fav CD of theirs anytime soon, but I do like it. In other CD news, Weird Als new CD, which isn't in stores til this upcoming Tuesday, has been in my library for about a week. The whole album was leaked online so I couldn't resist downloading it. Usually I can control myself when it comes to this stuff, but not with Al. I don't feel guilty hearing the album early since I'm going to buy it anyway. I'd never rob Al of his rightful money.
Much like the BNL CD, I was underwhelmed on the initial listening. I can't begin to imagine what I was thinking, because I've listened to the whole thing at least 20 times now and it's simply amazing.
There's this dude that works here named Miles. He means well and is a nice guy, but they say he's been working here since the early '90s. He's definatly in his mid-40s if not older and always seems so down. He has arthritus, he's always breathing heavily and muttering with sighs of disapointment. I witnessed him breaking his glasses in the printer last week...don't ask. Please don't ask. He also takes a while to explain stuff. Good guy, just kinda a downer. He very well may only be allowed to work here so that it encourages the rest of us working here (those of us in our 20s) to graduate before his life happens to us.
Bought and finished watching the complete 2nd season of The Office on DVD which is among the greatest live action comedies on TV today. It's not alone, though, as another great NBC comedy just came to DVD too: My Name is Earl. Gonna watch some of that when I get home in about an hour. Nice.
MOST importantly: Wii. November 19th. $250. I'm just counting down the weeks at this point.

Once again, I am at my job with not a whole lot to do so I figured it'd be an alright time to write in this here thingo. Now I warn you: what you are about to read may be dull and tiresome so read ONLY at your own risk.
My cellphone broke Friday right before work. The camera part of the phone has been busted for a few months, but I figured a way around that. Here's the deal- when I'd try to get the camera to work, I'd get a loading screen that eventually froze. My logic was that some wires inside weren't touching but that could be fixed. I tested said theory by forcing the top part of phone back past resistance and hey, it worked! The problem was, I'd have to do this every time I wanted to use the camera which meant force the top screen back more and more each time. Well, a few weeks later I realized neither of my screens would light up as bright as they used to but that didn't seem like a very big deal. Eventually it took time for ANYthing on the inside screen to load, even the basic wallpaper. I'd flip the phone open and have to wait 5 seconds before anything showed up. Yadda yadda yadda, Thursday I bent the phone back a lil' too much and SSSSNAP. Phone no more. More on that story later because I know there's nothing like a riviting phone story to keep my readers on the edge of their seats.
Saturday was the first football game of the season for FLHS, and more importantly, the first halftime show. Brett needs massive improvement. I sat with Josh and Alan, neither seemed to realize how much help he needs. The show was good, I was fairly impressed considering how early in the season it is, but the bassline...guck. Also Bretts pants were too big and that just looked plain silly.
I can't seem to go a week without having to buy something on DVD, and last week was no different. The Weird Al Show on DVD has the entire 1997 short-lived 13 episode run with commentaries by Al and producers on every ep, some Fatman animatics (also with commentary), and a photo reel. The show itself has aged rather poorly in that its not very funny. I like it more for nostalgia purposes, but Al agrees. In fact the commentaries make the purchase worthwhile as you hear Al and crew BASH every single episode dissing CBS and the studio for making them dumb everything down. Hilarious stuff.
I'm happy that I got my work schedual changed today. I fixed my Thursday hours so that I no longer have to work in the crappy library but I get the nice secluded E-building for a while, also that gos from 3-7 instead of 4-8 that way I can be home in time for my Thursday night shows (Earl and Office start up I think next week).
I know I'm losing you now, so to ring ya back in I'll finish that phone story!! Basically, Verizon would have made me pay upwards of 100-200 bucks to get a new phone if I got one Friday or Saturday, but today they may have some used ones for as low as $80. So while I'm here at work, my dad and Josh will pick out a replacement. I doubt it will be a "new" phone (I want the chocolate phone, not happening) but as long as it has everything my previous phone had thats all that matters. I can upgrade to a good NEW phone come April anyways.
I'm happy that I wrote this because it passed a good chunk of work time. Oh oh, I almost forgot to mention. 9/11. Alrighty, well, thats all.

As I'm sitting here in the Tech Lab at work, I start to wonder...
why do toothbrushes always have the most graphically stunning TV commercials? every toothbrush ad always has the toothbrush going through some kind of special scanning session with an X-ray and a crazy zoom up with slow-mo to show the bristles, then a pan out and a wrap around to a guy holding it smiling... all to fairly intense opera music.
its gotta be because toothbrushes are the opposite of extreme and they're trying to cover that up.

OK GO- Here It Goes Again |
] |
First day of Fall '06 classes yesterday. I was up at 7am (i forgot there was a 7am) and left for Body Conditioning around 7:40, which I soon realized was WAY too late. The traffic getting there was a real pain, it even made me get to class a little late. I should have known better for the first day of school since the same thing happened my freshman year there. It was no big deal, though. The teacher was Coppola again, who I had for WEX-101 in 2004. That class seems pretty easy as it looks like it really is just gonna be GYM 101. It's basically just gonna be cardio and weight lifting, which is nice because I did that in May-July anyway. I'm glad that I have to take this class now because I haven't gone to the gym in a while and I feel 3 months of this class will get make in the shape or better shape than I was at the end of July. Because of work I don't really have time to go to the gym outside of this class anymore.
Then I went home, and to my surprise was actually able to fall asleep. Slept 9:30-12. Went to Algebra B at 1:40 and it's definatly gonna be my hardest class this semester. I'll have to work for it, but the teacher seems reasonable so if I put as much into this class as I did Algebra A I think I can do it (and then thats IT for math).
First day as an official STC started at 3:30. The job is pretty much what I expected, and that's really good. It is ALL about location though. I was in the Library for 2.5 hours and the job was annoying as hell. So many people with questions about the BCC e-mail or Web Advisor passwords or printer problems, plus it was loud for some reason. It wasn't that great, but the last 2 hours I spent in S-352 were amazing. There were never more than 3 people in there at a time, none ever had any questions, it was quiet with blasting air conditioning, and I just went online. Time passed REAL fast.
Today I go to work at 4. Feel free to stop by if you feel like it. I don't really care. Less people there =/= potential questions.
This OK GO song is sooooooo damn catchy.

Well, the work schedual is here and it's pretty hefty. Here's how my first STC lab guy work schedual pans out:
Monday: 3:30-7:30 S-352
Wednesday: 3:30-4:00 Library 2 4:00-6:00 Library 1 6:00-8:00 S-352
Thursday: 4:00-4:30 Library 2 4:30-6:00 Library 1 6:00-8:00 Task 4
Friday: 10:00-1:00 S346 1:00-3:00 Task 2 3:00-6:00 TEC-114
And that's that, just another reminded that my class schedual is
Mondays and Wednesdays 8:00am-8:50am Body Conditioning 1:40pm-3:00pm Algebra B
Tuesday 10:15am- 2:25pm Graphic Design 6:10pm-10:20pm Interactive Multimedia
SO, since I don't have classes Thurs/Fri, I don't mind the extremely lengthy hours. But in the future, I may cut back my Mon/Weds (or at least Weds) to 2 hours instead of 4(1/2). Maybe not. Looks like Biscuits at Work may be the more used screen name in coming weeks.

So yesterdays interview, I thought, went fairly OK. I mean, it wasn't good, but it could have gone a lot worse. It was 5 students asking the questions, not the main boss guy. I tried to be straight and serious, but also kinda casual. Somehow the mix never comes off right. It went well enough for them to call me back asking I come in again the next day though, so all was well.
I went back today and thats when the boss, I'll just call him DK now since those are his initials (yes, like Donkey Kong), was asking questions. Asking how many times I've been interviewed, saying it was obvious that I didn't have much expierience with interviews, you know- all the stuff that makes you feel like crap. After the little talk, he welcomed me to 'the team'. That's right, I've got the job. If only things had gone better after that.
He requested I changed my e-mail address cuz he didn't think BiteMeMSTie@aol.com sounded professional enough. Well, it's not. I made that address in 1998. Anyway, for my jobs sake I created a second e-mail address with a bit less personality to it that I can use to communicate with him. He also requested I stay and write up my preferred hours and my class schedual. I filled it out and sent it to him, then went home and watched some South Park season 8. Again, I wish things had gone better considering it was day 1, but I got an email saying I filled it out wrong so I had to go back to BCC to fix it. Did that. Sure hope he doesn't think I'm a complete buffoon already, he shouldn't realize that until at least a month after I have the position.
The only other thing that irked me really was that he requested I fill out a schedual where I write down 30 hours I'd be available to work, and if I did that, I'd be assured to work 20 hours a week. I guess that's what most people do there, but really, I just wanna work like 16 hour weeks. I'll work 20 hours the first week or two, but I hope he doesn't think I'm a slacker if I tell him I'd prefer to just work 16 hours. Ideally, I'd work:
Monday and Wednesday from 3:30-4:30 Just 1 hour those days, and then just take 6-7 hours a day Thurs/Fri since I don't have classes then. I'd gladly stay in the lab from like 11am-6pm those days. Billy, if you're out there, what do you think? I know I can't COMPLETLEY choose my schedual, but do you think he'd think one hour M/W is out of the question even if I want to work longer hours Th/F?
OK OK, I'll stop talkin about the job in a sec. Class starts on Wednesday for me, but Tuesday DK also wants me to come in for an 8:30am "new recruiters" workshop or something. I dunno, reading the page makes it sound like more intimidating of a job than it's going to be. This evaluation thing though is kinda spooky, he still has time to tell me he doesn't want me to work for him afterall.
In OTHER news, it's my dads birthday. Made him a card, got him a Dilbert book. I also bought StarFox Command for me. Joy.
What else, what else. People are all heading back to college, which upsets some kids who commute. I've done just fine by myself the last 2 years, nothing new. Aside for Shore who's here, if I get bored (HA) now Mar and Gunn go to BCC too.
OK OK OK, dad needs the PC. I'll get back to StarFox. C YA!

Monday and Tuesday I, being the geek I am, was compelled to stop by at the marching band. I haven't really had too much of a reason to stop by since I graduated, but with Brett in it now, I'll probably be going to more comps this season. It's down to like 5 or 6 kids I even know anymore there. Seeing Toli and Beth always makes me happy, though. Tuesday was really fun- After they were done with band for the night: Shore, Buzzy, Paul, Aliza, and I went mini golfing (gave up after 8 holes and then just started wacking shit) and then went to White Castle (no Paul). Aliza took this AMAZING pic of me wearing a baseball helmet (at the batting cages) doing "retard andrew". WC has an item on their menu called Fish Nibblers. That is one unappatizing name.
Went to Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash over in Redbank on Thursday (Jord drove). I had wanted to go
A) because I'd never been there before and being a Kevin Smith fan it seemed wrong not to go since it's right in New Jersey B) in hopes of getting a View Askew shirt
Sadly, the only shirt that they had there that I wanted (it said "How would you like a chocolate covered pretzel" and had cartoon Banky on it) only came in Large, Extra Large, and Extra Extra Large. I'm down to a medium now, it's just that most of my shirts are old and Large anyway except for that Gir shirt, but no need to buy something that is too big, ya know? In the end it was kind of a pointless trip since all Jordan got was Mallrats on DVD which he could have bought anywhere. Still, Secret Stash is a really cool store- wish it was closer to home.
Watched my first RiffTrax this week, too. It was pretty good. They don't make as many jokes per minute as they did on MST, but it's still just great to hear those voices rippin' on a movie again. Personally, I just find the idea of RiffTrax to be incredibly cool by itself, synching up a commentary with a movie, that is. It was enjoyable enough to warrant downloading another one this week.
Yesterday was the band camp show. It was in the auditorium which was incredibly weak cuz all the parts were meshed together with the horrible acoustics. I could hardly make out drum parts at all. Oh well.
It's 10:45 now and I'm feelin real lazy and real tired. This Monday I have my real interview, not like that fake interview from last week.

The song from Snakes on a Plane |
] |
Thursday I saw 311 with the Wailers and Pepper. I went there with Jord and Borris and once there saw Graef, Jen, Mar, Shore, met some new people, and a bunch of others. Of course during the concert we got split up and I just wound up standing on a hill (good view though) with Jen and her friend. I wish I had more to say about the show but I don't. Good times, good show, but I liked the show last year a little more. Now onto more important business:
Yes, I saw Snakes on a Plane Friday night with Matt, Paul, Monte, Paige, Andrea, and Jeff- and yes, it was BRILLIANT. I couldn't have asked for a more entertaining movie.
MOVIE REVIEW! The movie begins: At first there's some nice surfing going on, the next thing ya know we're watching a wild motorcycle ride, a few minutes later we get some nice karate mafia action going on where someones getting the crap beat out of them, then a little bit later we're introduced to Samuel L. Jacksons character, and the next thing ya know you're a good 15-20 mins into the film. Sam and surfer board a plane to escape karate mafia, and from this point on, there's snakes on a plane. Nonstop snake action. Those snakes rip the plane and the passengers to shreds, and an hour later, they land. ENDING SPOILERS: Then they go surfing. THE END.
Snakes lands a solid 4 out of 5. Very entertaining. I definatly think I'd see it again if someone wanted to go.
After the movie I drove home, and thats when things got kinda weird. I pulled onto the driveway and once again there were waffles scattered all over my lawn. Great. So I start picking them up when a car pulls infront of my house with laughing Ant, Jord, Shore, and some of Jords friends from school. Hahaha. How funny. Throwing shit on my lawn for me to clean up, thanks. It wouldn't have been SO annoying except, and he may not have been, but Jordan seemed drunk. For some reason the act of throwing waffles on my lawn is annoying, but it's even more annoying if its a drunken act. Anyway, the next thing I know this black couple comes out of my neighbors house and this woman starts asking me if I'm OK. "Which one of you just got home? Ar- are you OK? ARE YOU OK???". Then her husband apologizes for her drunkeness and shovels her into the car.
Lauren stayed over that night, too. I didn't expect her to be up and about at 1:30 when I got home considering she's 9 and all, but she was. I went to bed a little before her actually around 2ish.
I downloaded my first Rifftrax this evening. Mike and Kevin riff Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. It's the closest thing to MST in years so I'm real excited for it. I expected Blockbuster to have the movie though. It didn't. Nor did the Blockbuster by Shop Rite, and neither did Easy Video. So now I have commentary for a movie I don't have. Ugh, I may have to buy it just to get any use out of the Rifftrax. If anyone out there owns or has a copy of it though, PLEASE let me know if I can borrow it ASAP.
Anyway, probably taking Sunday kinda easy. Monday morning at 9 I've got my interview over at Bergen. Hope that gos well enough so that I get the job. Then Monday night "Weird Al" will have his first single, "White and Nerdy"* (parody of Chamillionairs "Ridin") from his new album available to listen to online. Can't wait.
-andreW
*added 08/26- turns out his first single available to download was an original, "Don't Download This Song", not "White and Nerdy"
